HEY: Please note that this is an old article in which broken links have been removed. Our current range of children’s hot water bottles can be found right here and here.
In this post I’m going to have a look at some of the different hot water bottles available for kids and suggest a few different options for kids of different ages.
Hot water bottles are a great addition to any bedtime and will help comfort any child at bedtime. There are three types of hot water bottles available that we’re going to have a look at today; the traditional hot water variety, the newer style microwavable ‘warmers’ and last but not least hot water bottle cuddly toys.
Traditional Hot Water Bottles
We all know what a traditional hot water bottle looks like and how they work so I’ll not go into further detail here. Manufacturers have started to produce hot water bottles and covers aimed specifically at kids. You can now get bottles featuring popular characters such as Bart Simpson, Hannah Monttana and Spiderman. These products are normally excellent value and are normally priced at under £10 for the bottle and the cover, which is usually removable for cleaning.
The obvious disadvantage to this type of hot water bottle is the inherent fact that it is filled with hot water, and has the potential to cause accidents, either through burns through prolonged contact with the surface of the hot water bottle or through accidents occurring if a little one unscrews the cap of the bottle. It’s therefore recommended that traditional hot water bottles are only given to older children. A much safer option for younger children is the new breed of microwavable warmers.
Microwavable Warmers
Microwaveable warmers serve exactly the same function as traditional hot water bottles but are much safer than standard hot water bottles in that they do not use hot water to retain the heat. They are instead filled with a wheat mix which is heated in the microwave. The warmth that these warmers provides is not as intense as traditional hot water bottles and this design obviously avoid problems with accidental spillage. Microwave warmers are a little more expensive than traditional hot water bottles and tend to retails for around £15.

These cuddly toys contain either a hot water bottle or a microwavable warmer which can be removed to fill/heat. Great for young children to snuggle up to at night.
